In separate rooms in different parts of Akershus county, ME sufferers Kristine and Bjørnar are totally isolated in the dark. Where the slightest mental, social or physical exertion is too much.

Therefore, only assistants and those closest to them are allowed access to their isolation to assist with food, medication and care.

The fact that we were allowed to take a camera into the dark and "steal" Kristine and Bjørnar's very scarce resources is unusual, both in Norway and internationally.

While experts at home and abroad have different theories on what the solution to ME is, and many things are being tried in the hope of getting young people up and out into the light again, the years go by.

In the six years we followed Kristine and Bjørnar, we were amazed at their calmness, courage and degree of reflection when external stimuli and replenishment are reduced to an absolute minimum.
